Hello Reader,
Before we dive into this month’s Awaken Grief Support Schedule, I want to share something from the heart.
As you know, this work is deeply personal to me. Helping others navigate grief is not just my profession—it’s my meaning. It’s the path I found through my own losses, and the one I walk every day alongside you. The tools I share in Awaken aren’t just techniques—they come from lived experience, from clinical study, and from the stories and strength of this very community.
Earlier this April, I was honored—and honestly still a little in awe—to receive the 2025 Clinical Practice Award from the Association for Death Education and Counseling (ADEC). This recognition is awarded for innovation and excellence in grief support. To be acknowledged by the professional community that helped shape my work feels deeply affirming.
If you’re interested, you can watch the introduction and acceptance speech here and learn more about why this means so much to me.
To me, this award is not about ego—it’s about visibility. It means more people might discover that there are tools to cope with grief, that healing doesn’t mean forgetting, and that community and self-compassion can change everything.
I know this is true for the colleagues I stood beside that day. We’ve all been changed by loss—and that shared experience is what connects us to this work, and to one another.
(P.S. I’ve just moved from West Virginia back home to Maryland, which is why I’m a little behind on sharing this. It feels good to be home.)

June 2 & 3 — Mindful Eating through Grief
A sensory-based practice to slow down and bring gentle awareness to nourishment. We’ll share a quiet off-camera moment with a small snack or beverage, then reflect on what surfaced during the experience.
June 9 & 10 — Honoring Father’s Day Grief
Whether you’re grieving a father, stepfather, or father figure—or feeling the ache of absence—this class offers space to reflect, remember, and tend to the layers of grief Father’s Day may stir.
June 16 & 17 — Finding Alternative Proof to Enhance Self-Compassion
When grief touches old wounds or limiting beliefs, we may feel unworthy or unsupported. This session invites you to explore new evidence—within and around you—that your needs can be met, and you are not alone.
June 23 & 24 — Your Grief Playlist
Bring a song or lyric that speaks to your grief or healing journey. We’ll create a collective playlist to hold our stories, sorrows, and strength through music.
June 30 & July 1 — Taking in the Good Even During Difficult Times
This session focuses on savoring moments of connection and sensory experience to reset stress and build resilience over time. Together, we’ll practice noticing what feels good—even briefly—and letting it sink in.
With lovingkindness,
P.S. Thank you as always for being a part of our grief community. Connecting with others helps us all feel so much less alone.
